RESEARCH - Intertextuality

Intertextuality is when films copy aspects from each other such as Methods of Editing, Mise En Scene, Camera Angles or Sound.

I studied the films Fatal Attraction and Stepfather to see the similarities between the two and the film 'Psycho' and it's famous bathroom scene where the female protagonists gets stabbed whilst in the shower.

In 'Psycho's bathroom scene, the protagonist is showering in a all white bathroom when the anti-protagonist silhouette  comes in with the knife whilst the protagonist is unaware of their presence and slowly forwards then proceeds to open the shower curtain and stab the female protagonist multiple times.

In the film Fatal Attraction, a similar series of events occur but in this film, the anti-protagonist is a blonde female who should usually stereotypically be the victim to be saved.
From 'Psycho', Fatal Attraction took the idea of the knife used to kill the victim, the spotless white bathroom and the curtain being pulled by the victim.
